Krampus Is Coming To Town

krampus

Krampus is a beast-like creature from the folklore of Alpine countries thought to punish children during the Christmas season who had misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards well-behaved ones with gifts. Krampus is said to capture particularly naughty children in his sack and carry them away to his lair.

Man the Germans really are a stern people.
Santa Claus may get all the good press but I think it’s past time we started showing some love to Krampus because sometimes the threat of a lump of coal is not enough to keep kids in line and you need the threat of a demon from hell with a penchant for corporal punishment to do the job.

  1. The Krampus is awesome. In Holland Sinterklaas’ (Santa) right hand man in is Zwartepiet, a character who performs a very similar role and we have an amazing photo of my father (who is Dutch) aged about 3 looking terribly somber posed next to him.

    1. That sounds hilarious…I could just imagine how bummed out a kid would get thinking that he was on the naughty list and would get a visit from Zwartepiet/Krampus.
