Remake Rumble: Fright Night (1985) vs Fright Night (2011)

About The New Movie

The new movie matches up very favorably with the original too. The changes that were made to the concept for the new movie were all ones that worked for me. the new setting of Las Vegas was a smart idea for many of the reasons that got mentioned in the movie and having Vincent be a part of a cheesy Vegas magic act was cool too. I also thought is was a good idea to flesh out the role of Charley’s mom and having her played by Toni Collette lent a great deal of acting cred to the film because Collette is one of the best actresses in the biz. Also have to give them props for the Chris Sarandon cameo; at first I didn’t realize it was him but that was a nice nod to the old film.
The effects were cool too, I liked the mid transformation effect that Jerry went through when he was getting amped up and the 3-D (yes yet another movie in 3-D for some reason) was not as distracting as some of the most recent movies have been. There is nothing I hate more than for the 3-D to be forced instead of just letting the 3-D technology enhance what is already going to be in the film.
One of the only things I didn’t like about the new Fright Night was the back story of Peter Vincent. I would have rather he’d been completely caught off guard and unfamiliar with the fact that vampires were real. I also didn’t like the way the movie ended; it seemed like the ending was just tacked on as an afterthought. I also would have liked to have seen something more done with the idea that Jerry was putting together a vampire pack. A scene with a gang of marauding vampires running roughshod through the suburbs would have been a cool visual.

  1. I honestly think the 1985 Jerry was better becuase he was hotter and something girls could like, the new jerry just looked like a predator/rapist.
