Originally from Harlem, NY but not getting any love in her home country, Azealia skipped across the pond to the UK where she was quickly embraced by the hip-hop loving youth culture and discerning music critics there. She came in 3rd place on the Sound of 2012 list (an annual list of promising new musical talent that counts acts like 50 Cent, Adele, Corrine Bailey Rae, and Jessie J as past winners) and was #1 on NME’s annual Cool List. Azealia is the flip side to Nicki Minaj…focusing on her lyrics and in your face quirkiness as opposed to the glam and sexuality that Minaj traffics in.
