I love R&B music. I was raised in a household where it was played all the time and the music of the 70s and 80s really holds a special place in my heart. As I have grown older I find myself looking back to those times and noticing that some truly great music was released back then that came and went with very little fanfare and even less recognition. To that end I have decided to share some of the R&B music that I think deserves to be heard and appreciated.

Diana Ross – No One Get’s The Prize (1979)
“No One Gets the Prize” was the first single released from Diana Ross’ THE BOSS album. The song was not as popular in the public consciousness as other songs from that album like the eponymous single or “Its My House”. I think the reason for that is that “No One Gets the Prize” was more of a clubby/dance R&B song as opposed to straight R&B and being released in the midst of the insurgent Disco Sucks movement likely didn’t help either. Whatever the reason this is a song that deserves more attention. Written and produced by the legendary team of Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson with a beautiful arrangement and a spirited vocal by Miss Ross this song is a definite keeper.
