The Good:
Nathan Baesel was amazing as the titular hero/villain of the film. He brought a charismatic everyman quality to Leslie Vernon while also being truly believable and menacing when in full slasher villain mode.
I also loved how the movie was able to balance the comedy with the horror and sometimes to even switch on a dime between the two.
I also loved the twist with the “survivor girl” at the end. It was unexpected and really cool.

The Bad:
Can’t think of anything I didn’t like about this film.

The Ugly:
That there has not been a sequel made for this movie yet.

Final Verdict: Inspired by then SCREAM franchise to deconstruct the slasher movie genre, BEHIND THE MASK takes things a lot further than SCREAM did into truly original territory. The script was witty, the actors were all perfectly cast and game (especially star Baesel) and the overall film was as close to perfect as any movie of this type I have ever seen. A

  1. Excellent and inspired take on the slasher genre. As funny as it is scary; sometimes in the same scenes.

    1. The first time I saw it had no information about it at all so I assumed it would be just another run of the mill slasher movie. I was very happily surprised and now consider it one of my favorite movies of the genre.
