With $36 million now at his disposal, Ben has the newfound confidence to pursue his life-long crush, Lucy St. Martin (Ari Graynor). But can all the money in the world compensate for the fact that Ben is a fledgling serial killer? As their relationship spirals out of control and the body count rises, Lucy and Ben do all they can to survive love, marriage, and each other. (Source)

The Good:
The one really fun thing about this movie is the way that it does not shy away from the fact that pretty much the entire cast of characters are just awful people. Leading the pack is Ari Graynor’s Lucy, who amazingly comes off worse than Colin Hanks’ Ben and he is a serial killer. Lucy is selfish, petty and borderline deranged and she makes her serial killing husband look like the more rational of the two of them.
Plus I always get a kick out of seeing Ann-Margret on my screen.

The Bad:
This is supposed to be a dark comedy but while it is sufficiently dark it falls very short of being sufficiently funny.

The Ugly
Jeffrey Tambor’s talents were wasted in his role as the detective investigating the serial killings.

Final Verdict: A movie that wasted tons of potential for really dark humor as well as an audaciously out there performance by Ari Graynor. So instead of getting the really funny black comedy I hoped for, LUCKY only provided a few chuckles here and there.
Grade: C-

This sounds like it could have been good but wasn’t.

It definitely had potential but was sorely lacking in the execution.

So they decided to take Colin Hanks serial killer character from Dexter and put him in a dark comedy? Wow.

I have tried to block out that season of Dexter…if not for the last scene of the last episode it would have been a complete failure.
