The Good:
It is not often that animated movies pull no punches and even in some of the better adaptations from the DC Animated Universe some of the more mature themes and scenes have been toned down but that was not the case with this film. All of the grim and bloody events from the original comic books story are represented here. There is tons of violence and the bloody deaths of some of the characters really shocked me because I am not used to seeing that level of violent imagery from a DC cartoon.
The voice actors also worked very well with veteran actors like Kevin Conroy and Dana Delany melding perfectly fine with new additions to the DC Animated family like Kevin McKidd and Michael B. Jordan. Casting director Andrea Romano is the best at picking the right actor for these animated films.

The Bad:
I understand that there were time constraints but i really wanted to see more done with the alternate timeline Batman and Joker. This twisted re-imagining of the Batman mythos was my favorite part of the comic book story and it would have been awesome to see it on film.

The Ugly
I was not all that enthused by the anime inspired art style used for this movie. It wasn’t ugly or sloppy or anything but I really think a different style would have worked better.

Final Verdict: Taking a so-so comic book storyline and turning it into an amazing movie that served as a great spotlight for The Flash and depicted a grim and gritty DC Universe the likes of which hasn’t been seen in movie form before. This is one of the best offerings from the DC Animated Universe and should be used as a template for how to successfully make a Flash or Justice League movie.
