The Good:
I have been a big fan of Tyler Labine since his time on the dearly departed TV show REAPER and I loved his last comedy-horror film TUCKER & DALE VERSUS EVIL (which is a seriously underrated gem). He was playing a bit against type in this movie as the put upon and mild mannered Todd but he was still very good. His co-star, Malin Akerman was also very good as Cammie especially in the latter part of the film where she began to go off the rails. Lucy Punch and Dan Petronijevic were also really good as the first victims of the Todd and Cammie. These two were so obnoxious that I wanted to kill them myself.

The Bad:
This movie should have been so much funnier. Having a relatively normal couple completely freak out and become killers is a premise that is ripe for some really over the top darkly absurdest comedy. This movie never took that leap for some reason though.

The Ugly
Wasn’t too big of a fan of the ending. I get where the writer and director were going with this in wanting to show that doing bad things has consequences but I felt the ending was a bit of a cop out.

Final Verdict: A movie with nice performances from it’s two engaging leads but that never really embraced the nature of the type of film it was shooting to be. Instead of going for broke with the comedy/horror, COTTAGE COUNTRY showed far too much restraint that resulted in a tepid film that was never was funny enough or gory enough to really work.
