The Good:
Blomkamp never fails to provide great visuals and action scenes so the look of CHAPPIE is top notch. And Hugh Jackman was delightful wacky as a mulletted, cargo shorts wearing weapons designer with a major chip on his shoulder.

The Bad:
The script is borderline idiotic and posed question after question that never gets answered. Why exactly would anyone want to develop an AI that starts off with the mental faculties of a newborn baby? And why did it seem like someone didn’t have the thought until the middle of the movie that it would be a snazzy idea to have said AI able to access the Internet to learn everything at superspeed? Why were all of the scientists so damn stupid? Who thought it would be a good idea to cast Die Antwoord and then give them major roles? So much was wrong tonally due to the script.

The Ugly
So all it takes to download a perfect copy of a human beings brainwave patterns is a couple Playstations and crash helmet? I just thought it was good for playing video games and watching movies. I am wasting this devices full potential.

Final Verdict: A badly constructed mish-mosh of ROBOCOP, SHORT CIRCUIT and PINOCCHIO that never finds a consistent tone. Much like Chappie himself the film was totally confused about what it wanted to be. And aside from Hugh Jackman spectacularly chewing every inch of scenery that got near him, the performances were all disappointing (and in the case of the Die Antwoord twosome just annoying). Blomkamp delivers on the visuals and the big action but the script completely fails him and this movie.
