The Good:
It is a good thing this movie was on Netflix because if it was in a theater I would have ended up causing a scene like Brenda in SCARY MOVIE with the way I was yelling at the deaf writer Maddie as she was being stalked and psychologically and physically assaulted by The Man.

Yep that was me while watching HUSH. This movie is so filled with tension and truly harrowing moments made all the more gripping by the fact that it was a deaf woman being stalked and her disability put her at such a bigger disadvantage than your average Final Girl suffers under. And Katie Siegel was really good as that Final Girl. You immediately like her Maddie and actively start rooting for her very early on.
And director Mike Flanagan, who showed so much potential as a horror director with OCULUS, really hits a great stride with HUSH. All of his directing choices were on point and looking at his maturation I am really excited by the idea of him becoming the director of the new HALLOWEEN reboot that John Carpenter is shepherding.

The Bad:
The biggest issue I had with this film is how early The Man took off his awesome mask and revealed himself to look like just your average ironically bearded hipster doofus. He was still delightfully evil but all of his shenanigans would have been much better if he kept his creepy mask on.

The Ugly:
The door slamming on Maddie’s fingers was so cringe inducing. It actually made me look away.

Final Verdict: It has been a long time since I have really loved a horror movie but HUSH really wowed me. This film was tense and thrilling and has cemented director Mike Flanagan as a guy to watch. Great movie.

Grade: B+
