Good, Bad & Ugly Review: Battleship

Battleship Movie
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 36% (Critics) / 56% (Audience)
Directed By: Peter Berg
Written By: Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber
Starring: Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker and Liam Neeson
Studio: Universal

Synopsis: Peter Berg produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force in this film inspired by Hasbro’s classic naval combat game. (Source)

The Good:
Peter Berg shows he has a knack for directing big budget sci-fi spectacles. He provided some really good looking fight/battle scenes and I am looking forward to him trying his hand at another one in the near future.
Kitsch was a lot better as the action hero in BATTLESHIP than he was in JOHN CARTER.

The Bad:
Rihann is a terrible little actress and in a movie where acting was not even a second or third most important aspect of the film that is saying something.
The aliens were really uninspired both visually and in their muddled motivations.

The Ugly:
No one utters the line “You sank my battleship!” which was a bummer.

Final Verdict: A loud and visually appealing bit of morally simplistic storytelling. BATTLESHIP is goofy fun that is the epitome of what a mindless summer action movie should be. As long as you have some time to kill and you go into it with sufficiently lowered expectation you should have an enjoyable 2 hours watching BATTLESHIP. C+

It would be 100% if someone said “You sank my battleship!” Haha 😀

I can’t believe they didn’t include it in the movie. The closest they came was one character saying something like “you aren’t gonna sink this battleship”.

It seems like only yesterday that Berg was on the run from Mitch Pileggi in “Shocker”. As for Rihanna, I could tell from the short time she was in the trailer that she was going to suck. Great post, but I’ll be waiting to rent this one.

I say a rental is the way to go with this movie unless you are really bored and have a couple hours to kill.
And they kept Rihanna’s dialog to about 3 to 4 words per sentence. It was funny once i noticed it.
