The Good:
Seth MacFarlane’s foulmouthed teddy bear was hilarious. Watching such a cuddly little thing behave in such a boorish manner while the rest of the world paid him hardly any attention was a kick. Mark Wahlberg was a pleasant surprise too. After so many recent movies where he played pretty much the same beat at all times (a blend of slack jawed confusion and utter indifference) it was fun to see Marky Mark having a grand old time playing a doofus man child.
Also the fact that the two main characters in Ted both recognize the awesomely bad brilliance of the 1980’s Flash Gordon movie and it’s himbo star Sam Jones warmed the cockles of my geeky heart.

The Bad:
Mila Kunis, who I love like lightly buttered popcorn, was pleasant to look at but really underwhelming as the female lead. I also was disappointed that Joel McHale was so underutilized as the smarmy boss of Kunis’ character. There should have been much more done with his quest to get into Kunis’ character’s pants.

The Ugly:
The subplot with Giovanni Ribisi and his creepy son being obsessed with Ted was unnecessary and did nothing to make the movie better (I do have to give props to Ribisi for the his shamelessly wacky dancing along to a Tiffany video) but instead just derailed the film.

Final Verdict: An uneven movie that succeeded in being funnier more often than not and buoyed by strong performances from MacFarlane and Wahlberg; Ted is a worthwhile time at the movies for those who already fully embrace the comedy stylings of MacFarlane and also for those who just enjoy a little bit of raunchiness in their big screen comedies.
