The Good:
This movie is unabashedly goofy and it is the shameless admission that this movie is just a big pile of nonsense that lends a certain charm to the proceedings.
Christopher Lloyd gave his usual reliable kookily eccentric performance as the lead character’s grandfather and would have been welcome as a larger part of the overall film.

The Bad:
The gleeful embrace of the goofy aspect of the comedy/horror film did make it so that the actual horror aspect of the movie never really materialized. A good comedy/horror movie strikes the right balance between the funny and the scary so that when something truly awful happens the audience feels it more because we allow ourselves to forget that we are watching a horror movie. DEAD BEFORE DAWN fails terribly at the horror side of things.

The Ugly:
The make-up and visual effects were downright embarrassing at times. And a good rule of thumb should be that if you don’t have the budget to do realistic looking explosions then don’t cram so many of them into your movie.

Final Verdict: A slight and goofy entry into the annals of comedy/horror that doesn’t do anything too memorably but is so happy to wallow in its own silliness that it is hard to really hold its flaws against it. A perfect movie to watch when you just want to waste 90 minutes while doing your own version of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 in your living room.
