The Good:
Up till the actual natural disaster hit and all hell broke loose this was an almost enjoyable movie about a bunch of friends having a vacation in Chile.
And I got a kick out of watching the less talented Chilean version of Zach Galafianakis.

The Bad:
I am no squeamish weak sister who can’t take watching a film that is chock full of horribleness (I have seen A SERBIAN FILM, both HUMAN CENTIPEDES, all of the HOSTEL and SAW films) but what AFTERSHOCK lacks that those films did not was an ability to make the completely awful at least mildly compelling whether it be in the script or the way the awful stuff was filmed. AFTERSHOCK fails at everything…the script sucks, the acting is pitiful, the direction is amateurish, and the effects are so Z-grade that Roger Corman would turn his nose up at using them. The whole thing just looks cheap as all hell.
If I am going to have my senses assaulted for 90 minutes you better damn well make sure that what you are assaulting me with actually looks good.

The Ugly:
The tourist board of Chile should write a very sternly worded letter because this movie makes it seem like if things aren’t all sunshine and happiness in their country the citizens of Chile turn into a bunch of selfish sociopathic assclowns with a tendency to go all rapey and murdery on tourists.

Final Verdict: If you ever wondered what a disaster movie/torture porn mash-up would look like then this is the movie for you. The other 99.999% of the world would do well to avoid this poorly made film at all costs. And somebody tell Eli Roth that he is a terrible actor and send him back behind the camera please…you’d be doing him and the movie-going audience a favor.
