My original reaction to the idea of anyone remaking this movie, which I consider a true classic, is that it is really unnecessary and the best thing Hollywood could do is just re-release the original film in U.S. theaters. That being said, I do have to admit to being intrigued as to just what Spike Lee is going to do with this movie. From the trailer it looks like the attempt is being made to stay true to the original (maybe a bit too true since it does look like a shot for shot remake like Gus Van Sant’s PSYCHO remake) and it looks stylish as all get out. I am not completely sold on Josh Brolin in the lead role (but he is a better choice than Will Smith who was the rumored first choice though) and am very curious to see if the original film’s twist is going to be retained or if Lee will go a more sanitized for U.S. audiences route.
