The Good:
I am a big fan of Lennon and Garant from their time on the awesome COPS spoof, RENO 911. Those are two really funny guys and they throw everything and the kitchen sink at the audience in their attempts to make with the funny in HELL BABY. And every member of the cast is good with the most notable performance coming from Keegan Michael Key as the squatter from hell.
And the delivery scene has to be one of the most goofily funny and over the top comedy scenes I have watched in a very long time. The way the actors were tossing the demon baby puppet around the room like a hot potato was hilarious.
The Bad:
As much as I appreciated the AIRPLANES and NAKED GUN vibe that Lennon and Garant were going for with this movie, they ended up delivering just as many clunkers as funny lines. The bad didn’t outweigh the good but they were pretty much neck and neck.
The Ugly
Mrs Nussbaum‘s penchant for nudity was scarring.
Final Verdict: HELL BABY never reaches the heights of the movies it is inspired by or even the previous work of it’s talented writer/director team but it is funny enough to entertain you for the 90 minutes it lasts and all of the actors really threw themselves into their roles with gusto and embraced the madcap spirit of the movie.
