Synopsis: Six high school seniors celebrating with day’s excursion find themselves on rowboat attacked by man-eating fish and must decide who must be sacrificed as they fight their way back to shore. – (Source)
I probably was not supposed to but I enjoyed the hammy overacting and brain dead decision making of the doomed friends on their pleasure rowboat. The stupidity they exhibited was hilarious and the one character who goes from mildly interesting douche to full-blown psycho freak was a hoot to wacth because the execution was just so hamfisted and goofy. And the fact that these characters were supposed to be high school seniors but all looked like they were in their mid-30s just added to the unintentional hilarity.
All of the characters in this movie are absolutely horrible people so as the movie progresses and the group begins to turn on one another it doesn’t come as a shock or surprise because I would not have been shocked to see these cretins try to kill each other over the last slice of pizza.
And that man-eating fish looked like it was made by Sid & Marty Krofft.
Gotdamn that was one lameass looking sea monster. I mean really, really lame.
Final Verdict: A not particularly horrible horror movie but also not all that good. Would have probably been much beter off embracing it’s core cheesiness instead of striving for deep and meaningful psychological drama but failing to deliver on that score at all. As it stands, BENEATH is a great unintentionally funny horror movie that could probably could probably handily produce 3 separate drinking games in its 90 some odd minutes.
