Synopsis: By day Gerri Dandridge is a sexy professor, but by night she transforms into a real-life vampire with an unquenchable thirst for human blood. So when a group of high school students travel abroad to study in Romania, they find themselves ensnared in Gerri’s chilling web of lust and terror. Charley and “Evil” Ed must stop Gerri from drinking and bathing in the blood of a “new moon virgin,” which just so happens to be Charley’s ex-girlfriend, Amy. They enlist help from Peter Vincent, the vampire hunting host of a reality show called “Fright Night,” to drive a stake through Gerri’s plan and save Amy from a fate far worse than death. – (Source)

The Good:
Jamie Murray pulled off the evil centuries old bloodsucker part with ease. She is really good at playing the bad guy and was the highlight of the film.

The Bad:
Pretty much everything else was awful in this movie. The top three awful things were:
1. The casting was dreadful. When you find yourself wishing for a performance to be even a third as good as William Ragsdale then you know you are in for a terrible time. And its not even worth mentioning how poorly Sean Power compares to Roddy McDowall and David Tennant in the role of Peter Vincent.

2. Using the same characters from the original FRIGHT NIGHT but completely discounting all of the events of the first movie was just stupid. It took me about 20 minutes to realize that Charley had never lived next door to a vampire before.

3. There was no consistency to the powers that vampires possessed in this movie. It seemed like the filmmakers came up with new vampire abilities for a given scene on a whim.

The Ugly:
I can think of no good reason for there to have been a lingering shot of a naked old lady in a tub full of blood other than to skeeve me out.

Final Verdict: A pretty terrible movie that not only fails as a sequel but fails as a remake of a film that wasn’t even all that good either. Bad casting, bad acting, bad effects and a bad script all come together to make a really bad movie that not even a game performance by an actress I like can help raise the quality of. Jamie Murray deserves better and so does the FRIGHT NIGHT movie franchise.

Grade: D-
