The Good:
Rodriguez seemed to have fully embraced the goofiness of the Machete character and gone full out on making what basically boils down to a less cheeky but far more bloody and violent Austin Powers movie.
The supporting cast was also top notch with Gibson, Heard and Bichir really jumping feet first into the absurdity of this film. Gibson was great as a nutty billionaire arms dealer with a geeky love for Star Wars. And Amber Heard seemed born to play the slinky femme fatale.

The Bad:
The actual script for MACHETE KILLS was just a mishmash of incoherent ideas that seemingly popped into Rodriguez’s head and he then filmed with no thought given to making them work as part of a cohesive storyline.

The Ugly:
I hate movies that don’t have endings. I am fine if the ending sets up another film but each movie should be able to stand alone as an independent film of its own. The way Rodriguez ended MACHETE KILLS was very unsatisfying even though the seeds planted for MACHETE KILLS AGAIN…IN SPACE looks delightfully insane.

Final Verdict: While MACHETE KILLS is more in line with the over the top nature that inherent with the character (and was hinted at in the original mock trailer in GRINDHOUSE), the movie still feels like a slapdash and amateurish effort in terms of its script. Pure silliness is fun but it is not enough to carry a movie.
