The Good:
Rose Byrne and Seth Rogan made a believable couple despite the whole KING OF QUEENS vibe of the hot woman paired with the schlubby guy (props to the movie for making mention of the Kevin James TV series too) and their neurosis over the disruption of their suburban haven was well done.
Zac Efron may have a future career playing serial killers because he was quite convincing as the nearly sociopathic head of the fraternity.
Some of the revenge hijinks were pretty funny and I thoroughly enjoyed the “epic” battle between Rogan and Efron’s characters complete with a hilarious dildo duel.

Neighbors-1
The Bad:
While there were some funny moments as a whole this movie was not consistently funny. There would be whole stretches of time where nothing humorous would happen or even worse something that was supposed to be funny was going on but failing at it’s intended goal of eliciting laughter.

Neighbors-2
The Ugly
I do not get why a movie like this would creep up to the lowbrow cliff as many times as NEIGHBORS did without taking that plunge. This movie should have been as comedically fearless as BRIDESMAIDS was but instead just came off like a standard Adam Sandler type comedy.

Neighbors-3
Final Verdict: NEIGHBORS is more a handful of funny scenes than an actual funny movie. It does benefit from some decent moments by Rogen, Byrne and Efron. Chock full of gross-out site gags and raunchy jokes yet it always seems to be holding back from going as low as I think a film like this really should strive to be.

Grade: C+
