The Good:
The germ of an idea that the people behind TRIANGLE were going for is a really interesting one and I think it had a lot of potential to be formed into a really cool movie if the forming were being done by a better writer/director.
To her credit, Melissa George does a yeoman’s job of carrying the heavy load in this film and her performance is the true highlight of TRIANGLE.
And to be fair to writer/director Christopher Smith, he was able to come up with some really cool looking set pieces (one in particular that was awesomely macabre) in the midst of all the time looping hijinks.
The Bad:
I am a bit of a nerd so timey-whimey changey-wangey stuff involving time loops, dopplegangers and the like doesn’t usually confound me but I have to admit to be a bit IMAGE when it came to this movie. Just when you think the time loop shenanigans are making some sort of sense a scene occurs that completely upends things and the movie just gets murkier and murkier.
The Ugly:
Are we really supposed to be rooting for a verbally and physically abusive parent? If so I think this movie has even more wrong with it than I previously thought.
Final Verdict: A confusingly twisty bit of metaphysical slasher horror that buckles and ultimately falls apart under the weight of it’s own “Big Twist”. The movie does not seem to have any firmer a grasp on just what is going on than the characters in the film or the people watching it and that is a bad thing.
