Synopsis: Kylie Bucknell is forced to return to the house she grew up in when the court places her on home detention. The home that her mother thinks is haunted. However, when Kylie too becomes privy to unsettling whispers & strange bumps in the night, she begins to wonder whether if she’s inherited her mother’s overactive imagination, or if the house is in fact possessed by a hostile spirit who’s less than happy about the new living arrangement. – (Source)
The Good:
The movie delivers nice thrills and some creepy elements as well as being pretty darn funny to boot.
The chemistry between Morgana O’Reilly and Rima Te Wiata as reprobate Kylie and her scatter-brained mom Miriam was very well done and the two of them were a hoot to watch in their scenes together. And Glen-Paul Waru was very funny as Kylie’s bumbling partner in ghost-hunting.
I also liked the way the movie would lead the viewer down one path and then pull go in a completely different direction.
There was also a wonderful fight scene that demonstrates what a useful offensive weapon a cheese grater can be.
The Bad:
The first hour drags a bit as it serves to establish the relationship between Kylie and her mom as well as just how terrible a person Kylie is.
The Ugly:
Poor Graeme got no respect in this movie.
Final Verdict: A quirky comedy-horror movie that is genuinely funny while not losing any of the thrills you expect in this genre. The performances are all really good and the movie keeps you guessing. Definitely worth a watch.
