Best Supporting Actress

The Nominees: Patricia Arquette (BOYHOOD), Emma Stone (BIRDMAN), Laura Dern (WILD), Meryl Streep (INTO THE WOODS), Keira Knightley (THE IMITATION GAME)
Will Win: Emma Stone
Hollywood loves Emma Stone and they also love to give young ingenues Best Supporting Actress awards. It also doesn’t hurt that Stone was pretty good in Birdman to boot.
Should Win: Patricia Arquette
Arquette gave a very honest performance in BOYHOOD and did most of the heavy lifting in the film but there is no way in hell that academy voters are going to hand an Oscar to a woman who is about to be the star of CSI: CYBER. Much like MIKE & MOLLY killed any shot that Melissa McCarthy had at an Oscar for her performance on BRIDESMAIDS, Arquette headlining the umpteenth CSI spin-off that co-stars Lil Bow Wow and the guy from DAWSON’S CREEK is a non-starter.
Got Robbed: Oprah Winfrey (SELMA)
I figured since Oprah got snubbed for her (very non-Oprah) role in THE BUTLER that she would be rewarded with a nom for her part as civil rights activist Annie Lee Cooper which was an emotionally charged and pivotal one in the film.
