The Good:
Not being that much of a Will Smith fan, I was shocked at how much I enjoyed him in this film and really bought into the romantic chemistry that he and Margot Robbie were able to generate…granted, Robbie could probably generate heat with a coffee table but she and Smith still pulled it off nicely.
I also really enjoyed the supporting turns by Adrian Martinez as one of Smith’s character’s con artist associates and Gerald McRaney as a crusty head of security.
The Bad:
There is not much “there” in this film. It is light on story and almost entirely weightless as far as substantive storytelling. The word “fluff” comes to mind as an apt description.
The Ugly:
Relies a bit too much on the “Big Twist!” as a storytelling device to the point that the twists stop seeming so big.
Final Verdict: A slickly made, if lightweight, movie that overcomes some of its cliche and obvious turns due to the winning chemistry between its two leads and some enjoyable performances by its supporting cast.
Grade: B-
