My Five Favorite HBO Series

As I was coming up with my list of favorite HBO series I gave some thought to how there has always been a lot of discussion about the impact of THE SOPRANOS and just what an amazing show it is with some people declaring it the best TV show ever. This got me to thinking about how I am not one of those people who hold THE SOPRANOS at such a lofty position. Sure I recognize it’s importance in shaping the landscape of dramatic television but I honestly think that, as a show, THE SOPRANOS really wasn’t that great. To me the show was incredibly average in terms of storytelling but overcame all of that with great casting and acting. I defy anyone to point to one major storyline in the entire run of the show past Season 1 or 2 that was really all that amazing. Instead The SOPRANOS was wonderful at individual scenes featuring great acting performances that are very memorable but not in story arcs that elicit the same fond memories.

Tyreese is finally coming to The Walking Dead! The biggest gripe I have had with The Walking Dead TV show was that they didn’t include the fan-favorite character of Tyreese on the show. My annoyance was compounded by the fact that the new character of T-Dog was created for no good reason at all instead of just having what was one of the best characters from the comic on the show. So when I heard the rumors that the Tyreese character was being cast I was ecstatic and then when I read that the character had been cast with Chad Coleman (a favorite of mine from his time on The Wire) filling the role I was giddy with excitement. So seeing the promo that introduces the character (after the jump) just makes me even more psyched for this Sunday’s fall finale than I already was but spoilers have me feeling a bit of trepidation at the same time.

The 5 Suckiest TV Deaths

Death is a pretty regular occurrence on TV shows. It is used to boost ratings for sweeps or to increases interest in a waning show, or just because some creators like to rip the hearts out of their viewership (condemning side-eye in your direction GAME OF THRONES!). Sometimes these deaths are so amazingly written, acted and produced that they propel the show into storylines that create wonderful TV like The death of Mrs. Summers in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER or Col. Blake on MASH but then there are the deaths that seem to be the results of bad writing or a show that has become creatively bankrupt. These bad deaths result in horrible episodes of what were previously wonderful shows. And it is with this thought in mind that I give you my list of the 5 Suckiest Deaths in TV History!
