“Written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait” would usually be just the thing to send me running in the opposite direction but the trailer for GOD BLESS AMERICA is good enough to make me overlook the mind behind the movie. All of my memories of Bobcat are of the screechy, borderline mentally disabled schtick that he used in the old POLICE ACADEMY movies so seeing the subversively funny vibe this dark comedy is going for was a pleasant surprise. Here’s hoping it lives up to my new high level of expectation.
