The fine folks at The Animation Workshop must love those 1980s cartoons (that seemed to be created solely for the purpose of selling action figures) as much as I do. While my shameless devotion is put on display by non-ironic t-shirts and a nifty DVD collection…the students at The Animation Workshop were proactive and created their own addition to the pantheon of He-Man, Thundercats and Silverhawks in the form of the Space Stallions!
Everything about this cartoon is perfect from the cheesy synth-heavy theme song to the overly melodramatic voice acting to the goofy back story and universe (Mother Mustang! How can you not love that?). And the animation looks exactly like what I envision if Filmation had been dipping into computer animation. But the absolute best thing about this nearly 4 minutes of nirvana is the awesome visuals. The satellite base that looks like The Death Star if a giant horse had run through it; the horse shoe space ship; and the boss of all bosses…Sun-Ray! He makes riding a robot rainbow unicorn while playing a keytar with a porn-stache look like the coolest shit in the universe.
I need more, dagnabit!!!!!
