The Good:
Cinematographer Jean-François Hensgens deserves kudos for making smart choices in how this film comes across visually at least when the action was taking place out of the ocean.

The Bad:
Where to start? This movie is dull as hell. I’m talking “CSPAN chats with the author of math textbooks” dull. How someone can make a movie about shark attacks so deathly boring is a mystery that only director John Stockwell knows the secret to. Sharks eating people has been a go-to gimmick that can add spice to even the worst films from JAWS: THE REVENGE to SHARK NIGHT 3-D yet in the hands of Stockwell the shark attacks are as blah as the rest of this movie.
Speaking of blah…the romance at the heart of this movie is devoid of any chemistry at all. Supposedly this is the film that ignited the offscreen romance between Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez but none of that real life attraction is visible onscreen. Berry and Martinez have as much as spark as two 90 year olds in the dayroom of a nursing home during bingo.
And what the hell was going on with the underwater scenes? They either looked like stolen video from Shark Week or things were so damn dark you had to guess at what was actually happening.

The Ugly:
Maybe I am having a bit of an issue with my memory but I tend to recall a time when Halle Berry was a good actress. She has an Oscar for pity’s sake so she had to be at least above average once upon a time, right? I’m just asking because she seems like she has forgotten how to be convincing as an actress. You need to do better, Halle before you end up starring in the road show revival of I NEED A MAN with Oran Juice Jones as your leading man.

Final Verdict: This is a bad movie that really should remain on the shelf. This thing is not even worth a release straight to DVD or NetFlix/VOD. It is dull and the actors seem bored and uninspired which is pretty much how I felt while watching it. F
