For Some Reason They Are Making A Captain Planet Movie

From the Hollywood Reporter:

Environmental cartoon Captain Planet and the Planeteers is getting the big-screen treatment.
Sony Pictures is in final negotiations to pick up the rights to the early 1990s series for an adaptation to be produced by Mark Gordon, Don Murphy and Susan Montford.

I was never a fan of this show…it was far too treacly and heavy handed with the “save the environment” message and worst of all the animation, voice acting and storytelling was just abysmal. And the design of Capt. Planet was just awful. the green flat top mullet and sleeveless belly shirt combo was scarier than any of the evil environment hating villains Planet and those obnoxious Planeteers went up against.
I would, however, be first in line for an IMAX midnight showing if they made a big screen adaption of the Don Cheadle version of the character:

Now that would be a damn good movie because it plays up just what a joke of a character Planet is. As has been shown, playing Captain Planet as serious is a recipe for cornball cheesiness.
We need to see the good Captain making trees, motherfuckers!!!

    1. I honestly don’t see the point of a true to the cartoon Capt. planet especially after how awesome those Cheadle vids were. The groundwork has been done just hire a director, get Cheadle signed and give them a decent budget.

      1. Ham-fisted? Yes. But something about this show captured my imagination, coming home from the town pool on summer afternoons. I think there’s something about borderline terrible shows that make me want to see them taken seriously and done right. I thought the same about ThunderCats and He-Man (both were served with good reboots), and I’m still waiting on Bionic Bionic Six, ooh ooh-ooh, ooh ooh.
