We Have A New Doctor Who

Peter Capaldi (who is a bit of a vet of the Who universe having appeared in the DOCTOR WHO episode, The Fires of Pompeii as well as having a role in TORCHWOOD: CHILDREN OF EARTH) has been picked for the role and I couldn’t be happier. For one it gives us an older Doctor which I am all for because I was beginning to think that we would be stuck with Tiger Beat cover boys as The Doctor for the foreseeable future. So the BBC and the show’s producers basically have rained all of the fangirl and shipper factions of the Who fanbase with this pick.

I also am happy because Capaldi is a great actor who will bring a different energy to the role than what we have had for the majority of the time since the restarting of the show since 2005. I would say he will likely be more Chris Eccleston’s Doctor #9 than David Tennant’s and Matt Smith’s Doctors.
And for those not familiar with Capaldi from his work as foul mouthed spin doctor Malcolm Tucker on the wonderful UK political series THE THICK OF IT, I give you one of my favorite Capaldi as Tucker moments from that show:

  1. On rewatching all recent Who (because the old stuff does my head in), I have come to the realisation that Nine is definitely my favourite. Really hoping you are right and that Capaldi will be more of that ilk.

    1. I am optimtic that the days of the overly manic imp Doctor are over. I can’t see Capaldi acting like a young child who just ate a bag of candy and washed it down with a pot of coffee.
And at least we won’t ave to deal with the specter of The Doctor and Clara making goo-goo eyes at one another.
