Russell Simmons, the hip-hop impresario and the man behind the 1990s stand-up comedy show DEF COMEDY JAM, recently launched an online comedy channel called ALL DEF DIGITAL and the initial offering was a comedy skit about Harriet Tubman creating a sex tape to blackmail her slave master.
Does that sound like it has a shot of even being mildly funny to you? No? Well Russ would beg to differ as he tweeted this effusive praise:

Now I was willing to give this skit a chance because I am all about edgy, politically incorrect comedy and Simmons big upped it so much, so I sought it out expecting to have my side split wide open from laughing so much. Alas what I watched was not the “funniest thing I had ever seen”…it wasn’t even the funniest thing I had seen all day.
What the hell was that?
Let’s skip the fact that it is tacky and disrespectful to black people, women, victims of rape, an yone with a sense of humor, and the memory of an American hero; the absolute worst thing about it was that it was possibly the most unfunny thing I have watched in ages. If Russell Simmons wants to attach his name to a channel full of edgy satire and comedy then he needs to make sure that it isn’t lame as fuck.
And I guess Simmons finally realized that too after the public outcry of pure hated for this crap became so overwhelming:

Here is a tip for Russ, if he wants to continue this comedy venture then he needs to show the lame so-called comedians he has creating content for his channel how to do a skit about sensitive topics like slavery that is actually funny making them study this example of how it should be done:
Now that is funny…take notes, Mr. Simmons.

Lame as fuck indeed. If you’re going to poke a stick into a taboo beehive, at least do it like you mean it.

Exactly…funny trumps pretty much everything and to be this unfunny is just embarrassing.
