Denzel Washington as Blue Marvel

Blue wha? You may be wondering just who the hell is Blue Marvel and who can blame you because he is not a very well known character. So here is a little bit of his backstory:
Adam Brashear is a Korean War vet and all around genius who was trying to harness the power of anti-matter when he was caught in an anti-matter explosion that gave him super-powers. He is basically Black Superman.
He is also not nearly as cliche as being Marvel’s Black Superman would lead one to assume. Blue Marvel’s story is full of really relevant ideas. Most notably is that he started super-heroing in the 1960s but he did so in a full body suit and full mask that covered every inch of his skin. So he was readily accepted as a great hero until his costume got damaged during a battle and his black skin was shown to the shocked masses of 1960s America. Now if anyone can handle both the fantastical super-hero stuff while also having the gravitas to play all of the social/political/racial stuff it is Mr. Denzel Washington.
