The Good:
There were a couple of nifty shots in this film not the least of which was when the action would turn to a “first person” view much like the DEAD RISING video game. Rob Riggle was pretty funny as DEAD RISING game protagonist/zombie survivor turned TV pundit Frank West.
Also Virginia Madsen delivers a yeoman’s effort in a performance, as a distraught mother, that was way better than this movie deserved.

The Bad:
There was no chemistry between anyone in this film. The introduction of a bunch of extras from MAD MAX made no sense. No one seemed to give a rat’s patoot about their own established zombie behavior rules.
Dennis Haysbert’s kids must be best friends with the director’s to explain his doing this movie.
And Zach Lipovsky hasn’t seemed to learn nearly as much as I hoped he would from all the errors he made directing the terrible LEPRECHAUN: ORIGINS.

The Ugly:
Jesse Metcalfe emotes about as much as a department store mannequin except the mannequin is more lifelike.

Final Verdict: A hodge-podge of zombie cliches all piled into a film that looks like a bootleg version of the test pilot for Z NATION before they worked the kinks out. A few of the shots in the movie stand out as pretty cool and the caliber of actors (especially Virgina Madsen) that got roped into this is quite impressive but ultimately DEAD RISING is a completely forgettable movie.

Grade: D+
