The Good:
There was a really fun and funny part of the movie focusing on an a capella battle held in an eccentric billionaire’s mansion that harkened back to the vibe of the original film. It also helped that the eccentric billionaire was hilariously played by David Cross and that there was a really silly cameo by the Green Bay Packers in it too.
I also enjoyed every scene that Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins were in as the wacky a capella contest announcers.
The Bad:
The script for this movie was just a predictable mess. The constant use of racial and lowest common denominator humor also got really old really quick. It would have been less noticeably offensive if the jokes had been even a tiny bit funny at all.
The Ugly:
This movie misused (or barely featured) a lot of it’s cast but none more so than Katey Sagal. How do you have an actress with Sagal’s comedy and singing prowess and relegate her to 2 lousy scenes?
Final Verdict: A paint by numbers sequel that seemed intent on tossing aside the original films charm in favor of an increase in crassness. Even the majority of the musical numbers seemed like they were afterthoughts for the most part.
Grade: C-
