The Good:
Melissa McCarthy is a national treasure for the way she continues to miraculously squeeze actual humor out of these mostly awful films she stars in. She was a riot as the ball-busting billionaire trying to claw her way back to the top after a stint in prison for insider trading.
A shout out has to go to Peter Dinklage for matching McCarthy’s ability to go all and surpass the material they have been given.

The Bad:
The amount of wasted talent in this film is almost criminal. Kristen Bell is given almost nothing to do; Kathy Bates had a totally wasted cameo; Tyler Labine is a funny guy and was stuck in the boyfriend role for too much of the film; Kristen Schaal, Timothy Simons, Margo Martindale, Cecily Strong, and Cedric Yarbrough were all completely underused in this movie.

The Ugly:
If only Melissa McCarthy could get more scripts of the quality of BRIDESMAIDS and less like this film.

Final Verdict: THE BOSS is the type of by the numbers, run of the mill, assembly line comedy that Hollywood churns out weekly. It is a testament to Melissa McCarthy’s talent that she somehow manages to come out of these stinkers still smelling like a rose. Hollywood really needs to do better by her though.
