Remake Rumble: Tomb Raider Edition

Final Verdict

While both films give viewers winning performances from their leading ladies, neither of these attempts to bring Lara Croft to the big screen are any great cinematic achievements. They both have flaws all over the place and never really stick the landing of translating the feel of the popular video game to the screen. However the 2001 movie at least realizes that it is adapting a video game and plays up aspects that one expects in a such a situation while the 2018 movie tries to be a bit too grounded for what it is at its core. TOMB RAIDER would have been a lot better off trying to be more RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARC or THE MUMMY by embracing a more over-the-top philosophy. It is because of that misstep most of all that the 2001 film wins this battle.
