I love mash-ups. Music mash-ups, movie mash-ups, food mash-ups, comic book mash-ups…you mash it up and I am 99% likely to love it to pieces. So it was a no-brainer that when cosplayer par excellence Detty Cosplay decided to put his talents to the task of creating a cosplay costume that mashed up two of my favorite comic book character, Batman and Capt. America, that I would be a fan.
This might be the best cosplay I have ever seen because it doesn’t look real. Through some deft bodypainting skills this guy ends up looking like an actual drawing of the Silver Surfer.
Just in case you were unaware, Dr. Doom…the Fantastic Four arch-nemesis and all around awesome bad guy, once stood in for Santa Claus when jolly old St. Nick was killed in the line of duty trying to deliver gifts to Doom’s country of Latveria and the old guy’s last request was for Doom himself to finish delivering all the rest of the toys for Christmas. This was all documented in the classic WHAT THE-?! #10, “I’ll be Doom For Christmas” story
Comics are so great sometimes.
I love the old SUPER FRIENDS cartoon and my favorite period was when they introduced the Legion of Doom as the evil counterparts to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the heroes. And I really liked the design of the Wonder Woman arch-enemy The Cheetah so I was quite pleased when I stumbled across the DeviantArt page of Lola-Gainsborough. She had pics up of a great looking vintage Cheetah (and even threw in an appearance by the SUPER FRIENDS version of Toyman to boot!).
Ever wonder what some of Will Ferrell’s best known characters would look like as women? Yeah, me neither. But that thought did occur to some pretty innovative cosplayers who decided to Rule 63 a whole gang of Ferrell characters from Ricky Bobby to Jacobim Mugatu.
The halcyon days of professional wrestling to me were the “Rock-n-Wrestling” days of the 1980s WWF. Guys like Hulk Hogan, Sgt. Slaughter, Iron Sheik and “Macho Man” Randy Savage were in their primes and wrestling was on TV pretty much every day of the week. So it warmed the cockles of my heart to see this group of cosplayers in full old school 80s rassling regalia. Click to see what I am talking about.
