Bad Movies That Rock: Tuff Turf

Reason #2 That It Rocks: Inexplicably Good Casting Of The Film’s Star-Crossed Lovers

James Spader and Kim Richards in Tuff Turf
Of course James Spader is great as Morgan, the hero of the piece and does much more with the awful script and poorly written character than anyone else possibly could. Kim Richards, who was a major childhood crush of mine from the moment I saw her in ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN, is sufficiently pretty enough as bad girl with a heart of gold Frankie (despite looking like Hollywood from the old GLOW wrestling show) to warrant all of the trouble that seems to follow her everywhere she goes and it is a hoot to see that before becoming a drunken, embarrassing mess on a reality show she was an actress of notable charm. Together Morgan and Frankie actually are able to muster up some believable chemistry despite all the obstacles in their way. Also Morgan was a total dick who didn’t get harassed by the gang for no good reason…oh no Morgan kept poking the bull until he got the horns and a lot of it was very much deserved. We were also treated to a baby-faced Robert Downey Jr as the best friend of Spader’s character.
