02. STAR WARS – Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams)

In a galaxy far, far away there is only one black guy. Somebody alert Stormfront and tell their members that its time to start packing for a road trip!
When we first meet Lando Calrissian he is the head muckety muck of Cloud City and being s total sellout to The Empire. After realizing the error of his ways and figuring out that his perm would not survive any of the various head gear that members of Palpatine’s crew are forced to wear…Lando joined the side of the angels. Being a big ol’ pimp Lando of course had to try to put his mack down on Princess Leia (who seemed to be the only woman in this galaxy too) to no avail. But that rejection didn’t stop Lando from being the most stylish brotha in space. Played by the always uber-cool Billy Dee Williams, Lando is an icon of tokenism in films and held the distinction of being the one and only black guy in the Star Wars Universe until Samuel L. Jackson’s Mace Windu showed up. Plus no one looks more natural in a cape than this debonair mofo.

There have been token Black Guys Since the History of Movies..But some of these guys are not just tokens.,They only hang around White’s off the set. I’m saying you don’t see alot of them at any Black function.like the soul Train awards or any affair given by Black Ent…

Well a couple of them you don’t see period because their careers have dried up, they have retired, or they are dead.

Die Hard, Alien and Ghostbusters didn’t seem like tokens to me tbh.

I disagree with the following with explanation: Al from Die Hard. Really?! He is not the token black guy when there are other black guys that played in that movie(remember the computer guy for Han’s team, or the driver for McClane or Little Johnson(FBI)? So no on Al, who was a great guy in that movie. One consideration, Tyreese’s part in those bad Transoformer movies, Billy Dee in Tim Burton’s Batman(DA Dent). Actually anything Billy Dee was in w/o Diana Ross or James Earl Jones.
