The 10 Best Token Black Guys in Movie History

08. DIE HARD – Al Powell (Reginald Vel Johnson)

Mr. Winslow from FAMILY MATTERS took time out of bonding with Urkel and compounding his health problems due to a bad case of “Tha Suger” to provide a sounding board for Bruce Willis in DIE HARD and DIE HARD 2 (plus an episode of CHUCK!). This was pretty much a low impact bit of tokenism until the end of the original where Al got to pump one of those Eurotrash terrorists full of holes. Other than that brief moment of action Al spent most of his time eating Twinkies and panicking like a woman.

  1. There have been token Black Guys Since the History of Movies..But some of these guys are not just tokens.,They only hang around White’s off the set. I’m saying you don’t see alot of them at any Black function.like the soul Train awards or any affair given by Black Ent…

  3. I disagree with the following with explanation: Al from Die Hard. Really?! He is not the token black guy when there are other black guys that played in that movie(remember the computer guy for Han’s team, or the driver for McClane or Little Johnson(FBI)? So no on Al, who was a great guy in that movie. One consideration, Tyreese’s part in those bad Transoformer movies, Billy Dee in Tim Burton’s Batman(DA Dent). Actually anything Billy Dee was in w/o Diana Ross or James Earl Jones.
