Helen Mirren
I may be in the minority but I enjoy my Doctor being a little more seasoned. I have only seen a few videos of the original William Hartnell Doctor but his stately demeanor was a nice change from what i have gotten used to. Also one of my favorite Doctors is the 3rd doctor portrayed by Jon Pertwee and despite his being an older fella he was debonair as all heck and never hesitated to whip out some of his Venuvian kung-fu to beat down any chumps that had the nerve to jump up.
So casting Helen Mirren as a mature woman of a certain age who doesn’t hesitate to kick some butt would be cool. Plus Mirren still exhudes a high level of sex appeal despite being in her 60s which gives her a leg up on the mostly asexual Doctor’s that have come before her.

Really interesting article. I’m not familiar with the actress from Utopia, but your other four choices are all great. I think we have to see Helen Mirren in the show sometime in any role, but her being the Doctor would be even better!

I would love to see Helen Mirren on Who in any role personally.
And I can’t recommend Utopia enough…its only six episodes so if you are ever in search of a new series to watch I suggest you check it out.

Good god! did you just google some female actresses and thought “that’ll do”, obviously you’ve never watched or maybe even heard of Dr Who, i’m not adverse to having a female doctor if they are right for the lead but not just for the sake of having a female doctor, there are a very few female British actresses who could pull this off and you’ve not picked one. Try harder.
