With the news that a filming for the new (rebooted) FANTASTIC FOUR movie was going to be starting this summer it got me to hoping that new director Josh Trank (CHRONICLE) will be able to eliminate the bad memories of those tragic two movies that starred Jessica Alba and The Commish. And considering that piss poor casting was responsible for 75% of what was wrong with the previous FF movies (bad scripts, direction and visual effects made up the other 25%) getting the right actors for the roles is going to be a big deal. Which led to this wishful casting post.
Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic – David Tennant (DOCTOR WHO)
The right actor for Mr. Fantastic needs to be able to convincingly pull off being a scientific genius with poor social skills but also able to be heroic and make audiences believe that woman like Sue Storm would fall head over heels in love with him. Tennant has all the experience playing quirky geniuses from is time on DOCTOR WHO while also having the acting chops to embody all the other facets of the character.
Sue Storm/Invisible Woman – Amber Heard (THE PLAYBOY CLUB)
Sue Storm should be beautiful, smart, caring, and capable of kicking butt. Jessica Alba fit a couple of those criteria but she came off very blah in the role. Amber Heard on the other hand would be able to pull off all the different aspects of the character while also not appearing as if she were being forced to act at gunpoint like her predecessor.
Johnny Storm/Human Torch – Alex Pettyfer (MAGIC MIKE)
Chris Evans was the only positive in the previous FF movies and he played Johhny Storm perfectly. Alas he is now Captain America so the odds of him reprising this role are nonexistent. So what is needed in a recast is a guy who looks like the type of dude that women swoon over and is a bit of a douchebag because he realizes that he is the type of guy that women swoon over. I think Pettyfer can do that perfectly well.
Ben Grimm/Thing – Terry Crews (THE EXPENDABLES)
Ben Grimm is a rough and tumble ex-football player turned Air Force test pilot. While the majority of the time the actor will only be heard and not seen since I have heard that The Thing will be a CGI creation like The Hulk was in the THE AVENGERS movie, there will be some scenes of the human Grimm at the beginning of the film. I think Crews could pull off the streetwise athlete/military man who is also best friends with a major nerd like Reed Richards.
Victor Von Doom/Dr. Doom – Javier Bardem (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN)
Making Doom a petty Eurotrash twat was an unforgivable sin of the previous films so I would hope that the reboot sticks closer to the source material and makes Doom the complicated evil genius that he should be. Bardem has the gravitas and range to make the comic book version of Doom spring to life on the big screen.
