The IT Crowd

I know it may be seen as some sort of heresy in the TV world but not every UK show needs to be adapted to American television. Sure shows like The Office, Shameless and Being Human got it right but for every success story there are at least two dismal failures like Coupling, Viva Laughlin, Life on Mars, Skins, The In-Betweeners, Prime Suspect and Men Behaving Badly. To that junk pile I am pretty confident that we would have tossed the U.S. remake of The IT Crowd. Just based off of the clips of the pilot that I have seen on YouTube it was very obvious that Community’s Joel McHale was terribly miscast in the role of Roy.

Even though this was before McHale was cast as Jeff winger on Community the guy just has a certain look about him and sad sack IT guy is not in his wheelhouse. And even having Richard Aoyode reprise his role as Moss didn’t work because the vibe of the show just felt wrong with the overwhelming laugh track and bad choice of actress for the primary female role. It was just a horrific train wreck that I am happy to have avoided. Besides this show getting tossed aside just opened the door for McHale’s addition to the perfect Community cast.
