Next Caller
Next Caller was a 2012 show about two mismatched radio disc jockeys that were forced to work together on a satellite radio call-in show. The male half of this odd coupling was a crude, egotistical shock jock played by comedian Dane Cook and the female half was a former host of an NPR show who also happened to be (shock of all shocks) a feminist! I can just imagine the hilarious hijinx based off of that premise alone. So what could possibly go wrong with a show featuring this premise and starring Dane Cook? One of the problems could have been that no one in charge over at NBC realized that being in the “Dane Cook Business” would have been perfectly fine if it was maybe 2003 or 2005 but in 2012 nobody besides Cook’s family really gave a darn about him and his brand of unfunny comedy. Network brass being the out of touch rubes that they are this little bit of knowledge was lost on them and they not only gave the green light to this disaster but they even shelled out the dough to start filming for it. Luckily it was dropped by NBC before airing a single one of the four episodes that already been filmed which spared anyone in the TV viewing public from having to see this even if they were to stumble across it by accident.

Alarmingly, this show also featured the amazing Jeffrey Tambour in a supporting role that upsets me because a man of Mr. Tambour’s talents really shouldn’t have to co-star in crap like this. And proving that all grey clouds have silver linings, this show’s cancellation ensured that there would be no obstacles standing in the way of Mr. Tambour appearing in the Arrested Development revival series that aired on Netflix.

Why was the IT Crowd remake shot for shot the same show?
