BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER the TV series premiered 18 years ago this month on the now defunct WB Network. It is hard to believe that it has been almost 20 years since this show debuted and ever harder to believe that its been 12 years since the show ended. Well with the shows anniversary in mind I decided to put together a few of my unpopular opinions about this show that I loved to pieces.

Kendra Is My Second Favorite Slayer

“I am Kendra…The Vampire Slayer!” I love the way she says that line in one of the worst Jamaican accents to ever be used on film or TV. Kendra was the replacement Slayer before Faith and if I had my druthers she would have been the only replacement Slayer this show ever had. Aside from my being a fan of Kendra’s portrayer (the eternally youthful Bianca Lawson), I liked the rigid and straight edge personality due to being raised by her Watcher instead of her parents. There was a lot of room for Kendra to grow as a character and I was bummed when Drusilla killed her because we would never get to see her loosen up and get a boyfriend and wear girlie clothes or stake more vamps with Mr. Pointy.
A bit of trivia for ya…Bianca Lawson was originally cast as Cordelia but had to bow out because of another commitment. I wonder just how different Cordelia’s story would have turned out with Lawson in the role instead of Charisma Carpenter?
