I Hate Reformed/Good Guy Spike

Evil Spike is one of my favorite characters on this show. Spike with the chip in his brain that becomes a reluctant member of the Scooby Gang was one of my favorite story arcs for the character. The Spike that fell in Love with Buffy and then decided to go get a soul on his own with no prodding or gypsy curses was terrible. Ignoring the fact that this completely undermines the very premise this show was built on (if vamps can just decide to be good then Buffy has been behaving like a heartless serial killer for this shows entire run), it created this awful concoction known as Spuffy. I have a hard time believing that Spike would just get over Drusilla and fall completely in obsessive love with Buffy but it is even more ludicrous to think that Buffy would have any romantic feelings toward Spike. Once the show went there it destroyed a perfectly good character in Spike (and he wouldn’t bounce back until he went to ANGEL as a regular cast member) and it diminished Buffy in every way possible.

Interesting trivia. Thanks for sharing.

Spike was better as a bad guy π

So much better. The whole good guy/Buffy’s puppy dog stuff ruined the character.
Somehow having him play the hero role on Angel didn’t come off bad at all though.

Oh yeah he was better in angel. I think it was the rivalry and clashing of heads between angel and Spike that gave them both more material to work with.
