March 26, 2005 saw the relaunch (after a 15 year hiatus) of the fan favorite DOCTOR WHO franchise to TV screens under the creative auspices of QUEER AS FOLK helmer Russell T. Davies. From that debut, New Who has become an even bigger phenomenon than it was in its first iteration on both sides of the pond. So I figured this occasion was as good a time as any to make a list of some of my favorite things from New Who.
Favorite New Who Doctor: Nine (Christopher Eccleston)
The man who started the new DOCTOR WHO wave of popularity is also my hands down favorite of all the new Doctors we have seen since 2005. The Ninth Doctor was so different from what had come before. He was edgier, a tad bit on the grim side and not prone to any sort of quirky or flashy wardrobe. He was just a taciturn alien in jeans and a leather jacket who was dealing with a lot of inner angst. But when he dropped his defenses and showed he had a heart (or two) and a goofy sense of humor the character just beamed. Also the initial chemistry between Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper was a major reason why this new iteration of the series caught on. It wasn’t romantic (thank Jebus!) but it was deep and meaningful after a rough start. So my new Doctor is the Ninth Doctor and the only thing that bums me out about him is that I only got one season of him.
Some awesome picks here. I too love 9 and Donna.

I think Donna gets a bad rap just because of her intro in the Runaway Bride.
