The Good:
There are several really cool moments in this film that show the writer/director has a good knack for horror and I am eager to see what he comes out with next. he also created a very unsettling vibe with his wonderful score/soundtrack choices and the way the camera would seem to glide through scenes before settling on its true focus.
I also loved the idyllic suburban setting and 80’s design aesthetic. It looked like just the type of neighborhood and teenagers that Freddy Krueger or Michael Myers would be terrorizing.

The Bad:
There was a disjointed feeling to this movie that made it feel like just a group of scene ideas the director had but not a fully cohesive movie in total.
I also was a bit annoyed that there was no connecting the dots from the opening pre-credits scene and the rest of the movie.

The Ugly:
The abrupt ending elicited more than a few exaltation of “WTF?” and “Is that it?” from the audience I saw it with and I have to agree with them. The way the film just goes to a SOPRANOS finale-like fade to black was disappointing.

Final Verdict: A positively brilliant concept that falters a bit in execution but still delivers some really creepily cool moments that should have horror fans and casual viewers alike jumping more than once. A little more cohesion and clarity would have gone a long way towards helping IT FOLLOWS live up to the hype but as it stands it is still worth a view just because it is a good thing to see new creative visions added to the horror genre.

  1. I agree completely! I was really disappointed with how the movie ended! Also, the fact that the opening was never referenced again, and that there wasn’t another creepy/gruesome corpse found! Especially since the film established that “It” was a more aggressive entity. I also was let down by the pool scene. There was nothing in the movie to make us believe that their plan was going to work, and I didn’t like the outcome. I still enjoyed the film and would watch it again later, but if only those little things were tweaked a bit!

    1. I have to admit to liking the pool scene because it seemed like just the idiotic plan a bunch of goofy teenagers would come up with. Plus the way “It” kept beaning Jay with those appliances made me laugh.

  2. This movie sucked! There was no story plot. I wasted my money for this and they shouldn’t have spent their time putting on lipgloss and instead the should’ve did a storyline to it. I mean the only thing scary was when the thing was behind the friend.

    1. I liked it more than you did but it is definitely not worthy of the ridiculous hype that it has gotten as if it revolutionizes the horror genre or anything.
