Deadshot is an expert marksman and hitman/assassin. His origin is that he basically wanted to become a costumed hero like Batman but realized he didn’t want to share the spotlight and decided to kill Bats and replace him instead. That of course ended badly for Floyd and he spent several years as a recurring thorn in Batman’s side while creating quite a name for himself as hitman. Deadshot’s full backstory is much more interesting and tragic than just being one in a long line of Batman villains.
Floyd Lawton’s life has been one of tragedy after tragedy from his childhood with an abusive father to his inadvertently killing his younger brother while attempting to shoot his father in order to end the cycle of abuse. But the tragedy doesn’t stop there. Floyd married and had a son with equally tragic results as his son was kidnapped, raped and murdered by a pedophile. Floyd also has a daughter who he cannot be in contact with because his enemies would kill the girl.
So it is easy to understand why Floyd is a bit of a nutjob mentally. He has a quasi-death wish which manifests itself in him orchestrating situations that make it more than likely that he will die yet he never can bring himself to give in and let his own death happen. He also is a consummate professional when he is paid to do a job and will see it through to the end no matter what.
