NEW AVENGERS #20

Jonathan Hickman takes a break from the standard talking head and overly convoluted impending doomsday arguments to give fans a knockdown, drag out fight issue between The Illuminati and the Justice League-inspired Great Society for the fate of two worlds!

Final Verdict: I am not a Hickman hater or anything but I have to admit to being more than a little fed up with how he likes to drag out storylines for what seems like an eternity. At this point I don’t even recall exactly what the cause of these Incursions are or even what The Illuminati has done to stop them aside from screwing over Captain America. That being said, I loved this issue!

This fight between this crew of morally conflicted Avengers and the obviously inspired by the Justice League Great Society was a lot of fun. The fight scenes were all very well done with the dialogue being topnotch as the Society really spent a lot of time admonishing the Illuminati for giving up hope and being ready to kill other worlds. Best fight of the bunch had to be Iron Man against the Society’s speedster. It makes you realize that if the real Justice League and The Avengers ever fought that The Flash would be able to handle Iron Man with ease.

This issue also pointed out a little tidbit I hadn’t realized before…namely that Jonathan Hickman really wants to write the Justice League someday. Hopefully he gets the chance.
